Cobras v Marlins - Lambourne 4 day League 1st Round 1990 - Cobras 2nd Innings

Cobras v Marlins - Lambourne 4 day League 1st Round 1990 - Chittagong

3 wickets to the left arm spin of Ralph Newbury saw Cobras slip to 63/4 in their 2nd innings, and it seemed the Marlins had victory in their sights.
An unbroken century partnership for the 5th wicket between opener Adrian Knight and allrounder Barrington Leroy saved the game.
Rain and bad light caused the loss of 16 overs and forced the pair to bat out time rather than force for a late victory charge.
The match was Drawn, but featured some excellent cricket, with Man of the Match going to Christopher Stevens for his first innings century.

Cobras v Marlins - Lambourne 4 day League 1st Round 1990 - Chittagong

Lead by some more good batting from Stevens, and a return to form to Darren Garner, Marlins declared setting Cobras 276 to win in 80 overs on a wearing pitch.
It appeared a perfectly timed declaration, giving both teams a chance, and the Marlins plenty of time to take 10 wickets.

Cobras v Marlins - Lambourne 4 day League 1st Round 1990 - Chittagong

Half centuries to Adrian Knight and David Westerminster laid a strong foundation for the Cobras innings, and at 245/4 they were well pleased with their position.
But the second new ball caused all sorts of problems, as Drury Hayes and Frank Johnson ran through the middle and lower order to set up a lead of 135.
In all the last 6 wickets tumbled for 24, handing the Marlins a strong advantage.

Cobras 4 Marlins - Lambourne 4 day League 1st Round 1990 - Chittagong

Toss: Marlins

Pitch: 103

Marlins won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting wicket, and though they lost Foxx early, Rocklin and Stevens carried them into a strong position.
Christopher Stevens powered on to a well paced century after Rocklin was out for 67, and later in the innings Robin Brett and Ralph Newbury added a pair of 80's to see the total past 400.
The score at the hundred over mark was 312/5, handing 3 points to the Marlins, and 2 to the Cobras.
Apart from Ellis who worked up a lively pace, the Cobras bowling lacked penetration on a pitch which offered them little.

Score at 100 overs: 312/5
